The Poppies in Portsmouth .

The Poppies in Portsmouth .

We meet our guide and make a visit to Fort Nelson, built on the summit of Portsdown Hill overlooking the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. Here we can see a pougnant scultpture of thousands of individual ceramic poppies which will spill over the fort walls which will mark the 100th Anniversary of the end of the great War in 1918. From here we visit the village of Southwick with its thatched cottages occupied entirely by tenants of the manor in the way of the middle ages before stopping at Gunwharf Quays around lunchtime. This afternoon we enjoy an entertaining 45 minute cruise around Portsmouth Harbour before rounding off the day in Old Portsmouth.
